A defeat, but plenty of positives to take moving forward were the thoughts going around the dressing room following our game against Attackers FC in what was a very entertaining game of football, especially throughout the second half!
The opening stages of the game were quiet with both teams feeling each other out and it took until the 10th minute of the game for any goalmouth action. It was us who had that first chance, a half chance in all honesty, which saw Jordan Deans trying a long range shot which was comfortably saved.
Disaster struck five minutes later when we fell a goal behind! Some poor defending allowed the Attackers striker Timarqus Connor with a clear run on goal which he converted by lobbing Shemor Browne from the edge of the box. We rolled up our sleeves and went on the attack shortly after conceding with Cardinae Rennie (Booker) producing a fine solo run and shot which was saved.
We were then forced into an early substitution due to our left-back Nathaniel Gumbs receiving an injury with him being replaced by the returning Kashawn Senior. There was then drama just before the half hour mark when an altercation off the ball saw Connor from Attackers and our central defender Thierry Amorsinh both receiving straight red cards. This meant that we now had no recognised defenders left on the pitch which meant some reshuffling from Head Coach Chavoi Gumbs which saw us reverting to a back three comprising of debutant Dante McEwan Henderson, Jordan Deans, and Tre Gumbs. It must be said that the three lads at the back proceeded to play with a lot of discipline and were able to thwart almost all attacking play that our opponents produced for the rest of the game.
With the score remaining 1-0 to Attackers at half-time, we started the second period on the front foot with Jordan Deans going close from a free kick in the 50th minute and then Leon Whyle trying is luck from distance just eight minutes later with his shot being saved followed by a great effort from Booker which went just wide of the target.
We were well on top, but then completely against the run of play, Attackers doubled their advantage when Kion Lee struck in the 68th minute. A hammer blow for the lads after all the effort they had been putting into the game! However, we never gave up and ten minutes from full-time we got back into it through a scrambled goal from Booker to set up a grandstand finish!
We piled on the pressure and in injury time Rushane Brooks saw his piledriver come off the bar and Booker went close to securing a deserved point just moments from the end when his shot was well saved by the goalkeeper!
A point from this game was the least we deserved on the balance of play, but we move on and go again in two weeks’ time against Spartans.
