A fantastic season got even better on Sunday 6th July as we beat Attackers 4-1 in the 3rd/4th Place Play-Off Final in the Super Fours series! In all honesty, the game was done at half-time as we scored four unanswered goals in a blistering display of attacking football in the first 45 minutes!
Our first goal came in the 22nd minute of play when our Head Coach Chavoi Gumbs (who was deputising as goalkeeper for Shemor Browne who himself was playing at right-back due to player availability) rolled the ball out to Leon Whyle. Leon took the ball forward before finding Kemari ‘The Arrow’ Gumbs with a sublime through ball, Kemari shrugged off his marker and slipped the ball under Gomez in the Attackers goal to give us the lead!
Seven minutes later the provider of the first goal Leon Whyle, got himself on the score sheet to double our lead! Captain, Javis Jones crossing the ball into the box which was met with a powerful header from Leon to give Gomez no chance of saving!
It was 3-0 on 40 minutes with the move beginning wide on the Uprising right. Jordan Deans did well to take the ball off an Attackers play and found Leon Whyle with a Short pass, Leon then put Kemari away with a first time pass, Kemari crossed low into the penalty area with the ball being met first time by the left foot of Javis from 16 yards out and ending up in the roof of the net for a brilliant team goal!
Things couldn’t get any better could they, surely not, but they did! Three minutes before the break we made it 4-0 with Kemari Gumbs getting his second of the night. This time it was Jordan Deans with the assist, putting ‘The Arrow’ clean through on goal who made no mistake by passing the ball under Gomez and into the net! What a brilliant half of football from the boys!
It will come as no surprise that the second half was much quieter than the first half! After all, the game was won, and we consolidated that lead in the second period. Yes, we did still create a few chances but for one reason or another we didn’t manage to extend our advantage.
Attackers scored a consolation goal deep into injury time through former Uprising man Tajay Johnson, but that did not spoil what was an excellent evening for our club! We now look forward to the Knockout Cup campaign with a first-round game against East Enders in a few days’ time!
