The boys rounded off an excellent domestic league campaign on Wednesday the 25th of June with a comfortable 4-2 victory over Eagle Claw FC!
Captain, Javis Jones opened the scoring in the 15th minute when he capitalised on a defensive error, taking the ball around the goalkeeper and placing the ball into an empty net to give us the perfect start!
We were completely dominating the play both before and after our opening goal and we made that pressure count when we doubled our advantage in the 35th minute. This time it was Jordan Deans with the goal, and what a goal it was! Jordan was found 25 yards out, and he delivered a delightful chip over the goalkeeper and into the roof of the net. One of our goals of the season!
Our opponents had a great chance to reduce their deficit on 41 minutes but not for the first time this season we had our young goalkeeper Shemor Browne to thank for producing an outstanding save by tipping the ball past the post. However, Eagle Claw got that goal back from the resulting corner when poor defending allowed an unmarked St.Teval Duke to put the ball into the net from close range!
In a very entertaining half of football, we restored our two-goal advantage on the stroke of half-time when the talismanic Leon Whyle converted a chance from a few yards out. In truth, our play fully deserved a two-goal lead as the referee blew his whistle for half-time!
Although the second half wasn’t quite as exciting in terms of goal scoring opportunities, the boys did still create some good moments! Jaiden Fleming had a good shot saved just after the break which was followed by long range shots Leon Whyle and Javis Jones.
Because we hadn’t scored that 4th goal, Eagle Claw were still within a chance of getting back into the game, and so they did in the 70th minute when it must be said, Jayan Gordon scored from a fantastic free kick from the edge of our box! That goal seemed to spur our opponents on, and they very nearly equalised four minutes later when they hit the bar with a powerful shot!
Credit must go to our lads, because after that near miss for Eagle Claw, we got back to playing some decent football and eventually secured all three points when Leon Whyle headed home his second goal of the night from a Tre Gumbs corner from the left, five minutes from the end.
So, after a brilliant league season where we finished in 4th place, our highest ever finish in the Anguilla Football League! Our attention now turns to the forthcoming Super 4’s and Knockout Cup competitions! Let’s go boys!
