A double from Tajay ‘Barber’ Johnson saw Uprising secure an historic victory over Roaring Lions on an unforgettable night at the Raymond E. Gushard Technical Centre.

The Jamaican striker scored his first of the game early into the second half. A patient build up eventually saw Tre Gumbs finding Barber in the area who made no mistake, sliding the ball past the Lions GK at the near post. He then sealed the victory with his second of the game in injury time. Again, it was Tre Gumbs with the assist, this time with a delightful cross field pass from right to left, Barber controlled the ball with his chest before calmly placing the ball into the net to spark wild celebrations.

In all honesty, this victory was achieved by a superb all-round team performance with every single player making an important contribution. A bright opening to the game saw a string of chances to open the scoring but good goalkeeping from the Lions custodian prevented us from doing so. The best moment of the first half arguably came on 23 minutes when Delani Francis unleashed a ferocious long range shot which was brilliantly tipped over the bar.

It almost goes without saying that the second half will live long in the memory of everybody connected with Uprising FC. Our attacking play merited more than two goals and at the other end of the pitch, our back four and goalkeeper Keronni Vanterpool, ably assisted by our hardworking midfield players, maintained full concentration to thwart any efforts at goal by our opponents.

All in all, a fantastic night with this win now meaning we are two games unbeaten following a 0-0 draw in our previous game against Lymers FC.
