Uprising Fall to Heavy Defeat

On Saturday 14th May, we made a return to match action after a break of two weeks due to us having a free week for the previous round of games. Our previous game saw us go down to a slender 1-0 defeat against Lymers, so hopes were for a more positive result this time around against Salsa Ballers. Unfortunately for us we were to come up against a very impressive Salsa Ballers team whose attractive style of play proved to be too much for us on the night.

Despite the defeat, we started the game well and were competing in all areas of the field. However, the first chance fell to Salsa Ballers in the 10th minute, Ricardo John's shot at goal from just inside our penalty area producing a fine save by our young goalkeeper Darian Carty. Just two minutes later, we launched an attack of our own, Yariel Fleming broke free on our left and produced an in-swinging cross into the Salsa Ballers box which just evaded Rene Thomas.

On 14 minutes, Jauron Gayle for Salsa Ballers beat Tre Gumbs with a fine piece of skill before shooting at goal from a tight angle, but again, Darian Carty was equal to the task and palmed the ball away from our goal. Salsa Ballers did however take the lead eight minutes later courtesy of a close-range header by Jauron Gayle which this time Darian could do nothing about.

We responded to falling a goal behind quite well and started to enjoy a decent amount of possession of the ball, Yariel Fleming in particular was looking a likely threat for us. However, Salsa Ballers doubled their lead on 26 minutes through Ricardo John. John found himself unmarked in our box before dribbling around Darian Carty and placing the ball into an empty net. Shortly after going 2-0 down, Javis Jones tried to reduce our deficit with a long-range effort that went wide of the target.

On 31 minutes, a good move down the Uprising right flank ended with Denny Derrick crossing the ball into the danger area, unfortunately for us the ball was met by an opposition defender and cleared to safety. In the 38th minute, Ricardo John grabbed his second goal of the game and his team's third with a fine individual goal. We were now right up against it, but it must be said that we never let our heads drop and showed some great character by competing well for the remainder of the first half and indeed throughout the game as a whole. This was proven by Tre Gumbs who was one of our better players during the first half, who forced the Salsa Ballers goalkeeper into a good save when shooting from range.

Half Time Score: Uprising 0-3 Salsa Ballers

Any hopes of an Uprising comeback were quickly ended just three minutes into the second period with Jauron Gayle joining his teammate, Ricardo John on a brace of goals. Gayle found the net with a well-placed shot into the far corner giving Darian Carty no chance of saving. Yariel Fleming tried to get us on the scoresheet soon afterwards, but his long-range free kick was saved by Perez in the Salsa Ballers goal.

In the 55th minute, a good move that started in our defensive third ended with Antoine Laurent shooting from a tight angle with the effort being saved by Perez. In what was a good period of the game for us, five minutes later, another good move saw Yariel Fleming with a shooting opportunity inside the Salsa Ballers penalty area. Yariel curled a shot towards the far corner which was very well saved by Perez.

A quiet passage of play followed our two earlier chances before Salsa Ballers scored their fifth goal of the game in the 72nd minute. This time it was Colyn Cannonier who got on the scoresheet by curling a right footed shot into the far corner from just inside our penalty area.

Again, despite the deficit, we continued to try very hard which was great to see as it would have been easy for the players to drop their heads, but they didn’t, and they should be applauded for that.

Darian produced another fine save in the 83rd minute to prevent Findlay increasing his side's lead. We then went straight up the other end of the field with Stephen Fiedtkou showing some good skills, but he could not quite shake off his opponent to enable a goalscoring opportunity.

In the 85th minute, Darian Carty produced yet another fine save to deny Ricardo John from getting his hat-trick. On the day, Darian was a huge plus point for us and he continues to have a fine season. That was the last action of the game, and it was Salsa Ballers who took all three points with a 5-0 victory.
